Writing With The Soul

I began this incredible writing journey about two and a half years ago, not initially believing it would lead anywhere substantial. What started as my raw, first attempt at a book soon transformed into a passion I earnestly desired to pursue. Delving into the works of authors I admired, I sought workshops and classes to guide me through the harrowing realm of writing and publishing.

The workshop that kept appearing in all my research was Adrienne Young's Writing With The Soul. My grandmother, a long-time advocate of my writing journey, wholeheartedly backed me and generously offered to cover the workshop expenses. Let me tell you, that decision altered my life trajectory significantly - affecting my writing style, boosting my self-assurance and confidence in my writing, strengthening my authorial aspirations, enhancing my determination, and refining my discipline to pursue this path. Words fall short in applauding the Writing With The Soul workshop for its invaluable support towards emerging writers and the tight-knit community of remarkable individuals that it cultivates.

I have since gone on to do Drafting Club, attend the Residency in Oregon, taken classes with the Writer’s Conservatory, learning from the likes of Kristin Dwyer and Rebecca Ross, and will soon be partaking in Query Camp, where I plan on querying OLAS officially. Adrienne is such an amazing example of someone who gives back to her community and, through her passion for helping aspiring writers, she and the workshop have transformed my writing entirely.

The workshop itself gives unparalleled insight into craft and process and how to get your book ready to eventually query. Drafting Club is a wonderful virtual forum where writers can come together and encourage each other to get their project finished. I recently attended the Residency in Sisters, Oregon a few months ago and it was a magical experience. I got to meet so many of the wonderful humans I had known virtually through the workshop and Drafting Club and getting to meet some of my favorite authors, Adrienne Young and Kristin Dwyer. It was a magical week of sisterhood, writing, nature, craft, and inspiration. We all went to work, but we all left with a stronger community of authors who support each other through the harrowing journey of writing and publishing.

In the workshop, Adrienne has a saying that I always go back to when I am stuck, can’t get the words out or just can’t figure out a plot hole. “You are the deepest part of the ocean.” Read that again, twice, thrice. Because it might seem like you have nothing left to give, but that is far from the truth. Sometimes I need a walk in the woods or a coffee and a drive, but I always figure it out. Our possibilities and our creativity are infinite, waiting to be unleashed in the world of words and imagination.

Adrienne and her workshop and the community she has created, has allowed me to take my writing seriously, to push and fight for the dream that little men never thought would truly be possible. So all I have left to say is, if you want to write and don’t know where to start, just start getting the words out and then find a community and workshop that can help guide you and encourage you on this journey. It’s a beautiful thing. And if you are considering taking the Writing With The Soul workshop, don’t walk, run. You won’t regret it. I promise!
